Signs of Bipolar Disorder: Identifying The Potential Problem
Written by John Taylor

Bipolar symptoms are one of the tell tale ways that individuals can begin to determine if they or someone they love suffers from Bipolar Disorder.  This type of disorder is characterized by episodes of alternating depression and mania.  It is also known as manic depression.  While there are many symptoms of individuals are suffering from this condition, most of the time, the individual and their surrounding family and friends do not usually recognize them.  Even the doctor of the individual may overlook these symptoms when considering their situation.

Many doctors first treat symptoms and in the case of bipolar disorder, the symptoms are very much aligned with other, more common conditions.  For example, the patient may be suffering from an addiction to alcohol, drugs or perhaps other mental illnesses.  These are often more commonly found and therefore usually determined as the problem first.  It often takes a period of trial and error for person to be correctly diagnosised based on these bipolar disorder.

Early Signs Of Bipolar

Perhaps the most likely bipolar symptoms to be overlooked are those known as hypomania.  Hypomania is a state in which the person suffering from the condition is showing signs that are completely across the board.  They may be exhibiting signs of high levels of energy and being very irritable or moody.  They may be reckless in the actions that they perform and may become impulsive in decision making.  Often, those suffering from hypomania will find themselves facing mood swings without realizing it.  When family and friends ask them about these mood swings, they will brush it off and say that they feel fine.  The reason for this is because hypomania actually feels good to them.  To them, nothing is wrong.

Bipolar Disorder symptoms are broken down into two types.  The disorder is characterized by mood swings in completely opposite directions.  The two types of mood swings are called Major Depressive Episodes and Manic Episodes.  Those that suffer from bipolar symptoms face both of these.
